El Diablo Tranquilo, in the bohemian seaside village of Punta del Diablo Uruguay, has been creating memories as a welcoming home for guests and staff alike for ten years and is looking forward to continuing that tradition. If you are a hospitality professional with leadership experience looking to explore new places and test yourself against new challenges, read on.
We are looking for the right person or team to take the reins of our beachfront restaurant. Opened in 2007 and instantly one of the regions most iconic restaurants and seasonal clubs, much of the restaurant capacity was converted to accommodation space in 2011 and since 2012, when ownership ceased daily operational management, the property has been operated exclusively for guests of the boutique hostel. However, this year we will be opening to the public once again!
We have undertaken a winter's worth of repairs on the building and deck and are willing to offer the property for seasonal use from October through April rent free, in exchange for providing meals to the staff who work at El Diablo Tranquilo (Hostel & Playa Suites properties) and a "re-provisioning" of the kitchen equipment, which would remain on site after the high season.
We are also willing to include two private quarters for staff on the property, and perhaps additional space in the staff dormitories located just two blocks away in the staff house adjoining our other hostel building. This is a huge advantage when recruiting, as the seasonality of the pueblo means that housing can be exorbitantly expensive during the peak season.
Those who have managed a restaurant before will find themselves well supported by two key members of our team. Our original kitchen manager, who has graduated to running his own successful restaurant in nearby Punta del Este will assist in establishing any and all necessary local relationships (from qualified employees to suppliers and/or the state agencies that must be dealt with) and we are thrilled to have brought a veteran of over fifteen years owning restaurants in Costa Rica to our hostel management team this year.
If this sounds like an adventure you’re excited to live, let me know and come spend a season on the beach with us.
I recommend that you do your homework and have a basic understanding of coastal Uruguay and its seasonality before you take my word for it, but I am happy to share my own experience having built El Diablo Tranquilo from scratch and fill in any gaps.
The hostel itself focuses on an inclusive experience, not just renting beds. By bringing together an eclectic team representing at least a dozen countries each year, our staff models the type of experience that is possible and thus also serves as the driving motor in capturing our 80+ guests as restaurant customers as they themselves eat on site six times each week (we cover the 7th).
The property has lost some of its luster, but we've invested tens of thousands of dollars in repairs this year and completely changed our management in order to bring it back. I look forward to you being a part of that and leveraging our advantages into a profitable and productive season that provides great experiences to our guests and staff as well as you and yours.
Cheers!
Brian
