Thailand has continued to be one of the most tempting destinations for those who are seeking a combination of enchanting natural surroundings, alluring culture, and incredible biodiversity. Breathtaking silvery beaches lapped by warm, crystal clear waters are complemented by friendly locals, mouth-watering local delicacies, and an ancient and fascinating historical heritage rooted in Buddhist origins. Whether you are an experienced teacher or a student looking to further your skills this project will provide you with the perfect opportunity to broaden your horizons and even provide you with the ideal platform to achieve a TEFL Qualification. Whatever your aim, the ability to live and work in a new and exciting country shows that you have determination, adaptability and maturity and will undoubtedly enhance your career prospects and employability with future employers. WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO? By participating in the Frontier-Thailand Paid Teaching Programme, you'll be helping your students improve their level of English and bringing a fresh approach to teaching styles and lesson types. Teaching is not just about transferring knowledge; it is about building confidence and trust and about forging friendships. Before long, you'll find that your students become like a family to you and you’ll enjoy attending local festivals or exploring Thailand’s spectacular countryside with them, or simply telling stories. Your Paid Teaching Placement will take place at a relatively privilidged private school close to Singburi. Unfortunately the less privilidged schools of the region cannot afford to employ short term paid staff and so rely upon voluntary teachers from other programmes. Another problem facing the region is that highly skilled teachers tend to flock to Bangkok where the promise of a higher salary and a greater chance of finding employment are a strong lure. WHAT WILL I BE DOING? Your placement in Thailand starts with an orientation weekend in Bangkok in which you take a cycle and boat tour of the city, get your bearings and socialise with the other participants. This is followed by a two week training period in Singburi which includes teacher training and introductions to Thai culture, language, customs and the opportunity to go on excursions. You will meet students and nearby schools, as well as observing lessons with both Thai and foreign teachers. You will then have the opportunity to practise teaching with your peers and in the local schools before beginning the placement itself. Once you have completed and passed the course you will be issued with a teaching certificate and you will be guaranteed a placement in a school, receiving a monthly stipend relative to the region, usually between £250 and £400, and teaching 20–30 hours per week. You will be making and executing your own lesson plans, and this will give you the perfect opportunity to experience real Thailand, make a difference to the future generations, immerse yourself in Thai culture and make friends for life with your welcoming hosts and the wonderful children. To apply for this opportunity, visit the placement page here, click on the orange "Apply Now" button and fill in the application form. One of our advisors will then call you back to answer any questions you have. You can also view all of our worldwide volunteering and internship placements here.
