About ICS:
The Department for International Development (DFID) funds ICS – representing a significant investment by the UK government in young people because they believe in the power of youth to bring about positive change in some of the poorest communities around the world, and that by creating thousands of active citizens we can shape the future for the better.
ICS is led by VSO and funded by the UK Government. Raleigh is working alongside other respected development organisations to deliver the ICS programme in over 30 countries.

What will I be doing?
As a team leader you’ll be living and working from 3-7 months in rural communities in the northern and central regions of Nicaragua. There are two types of projects you could be involved with. You could help improve people’s safe water and sanitation. These are known as our WASH projects; they stand for water, sanitation and hygiene. Or you could support local young people to create small businesses or social enterprises. These will help reduce youth unemployment and we refer to them as our ICS Entrepreneur projects. If you have relevant skills and experience for either of these, please make it known when you apply and we will try to allocate you to the most appropriate project.
You will develop personally and professionally, gaining skills that you can use in the future. And you will be inspired to take what you’ve learnt from your placement and continue to influence positive change in your own community.
Are you a natural leader?
Then you could be the perfect person for Raleigh ICS. If you believe you have the ability to inspire and motivate a group of young volunteers from different backgrounds then you may be who we’re looking for. You won’t be alone. You’ll work with a Latino team leader and a group of around 12 young volunteers. These volunteers will be from the UK, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. You’ll make new friends, learn new skills and make impact on the lives of others.
Are you a Spanish speaker?
Fantastic! We also need conversational to fluent Spanish speaking team leaders for our projects based in Nicaragua.
